Scenes from a Movie, Part 1, The Seventh Dream (1986) by Earl Kim
for soprano, baritone, violin, cello, and piano

Earl Kim is especially well-known for his extensive work in the idiom of music theatre, specifically on texts by Samuel Beckett. Scenes from a Movie is based upon text by Rainer Maria Rilke with the English translation by G. Craig Houston. An excerpt: "I looked for the girl. I found her in a long narrow room, in which the morning light was just breaking. She was sitting on a chair and was smiling almost imperceptibly. Beside her, not more than a pace distant was another chair, on which a young man was sitting, leaning back stiffly, it seemed as if the two had passed the night in this way."
