The music of Ross Bauer is published by ACA and C.F. Peters and recorded on the Albany, GM, Centaur, and New World labels. Heartstrings, released in 2013, features songs on poems of Emily Dickinson plus four instrumental pieces.

Recognition has come from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in the form of a 2005 Academy Award in Music and the Walter Hinrichsen Award. Other honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Fromm Foundation commissions, Barlow and Koussevitzky commissions, and an NEA Composition Fellowship. Founder and former director of Empyrean Ensemble, he has taught theory and composition at U.C. Davis since 1988.
